The Best Restaurants in Stony Brook

When visiting this quaint little town located on Long Islands north shore there are so many great options for places to dine. May it be for a date nite, quick bite or a nosh post hike at Avalon you can find a lot of wonderful options in Stony Brook!

Mirabell Restaurant & Tavern

Located at the Three Village Inn this place never disappoints. Chef Guy’s Fresh-Meets-French farm-to-table style is usually never short of amazing. Open for weekend brunches with your gal pals and for lunch and dinner during all week you will always find something to suit your needs. My favorites are always the steak tartar and the duck entree, as well as their seasonal drink menus. This spot can make for a great date night paired with a show at the Jazz loft or stroll around the village shops.

Sweet Mama’s

Possibly my favorite spot in Stony Brook Village for a tasty breakfast and a little nostalgia! It’s a great spot for the whole family to enjoy with a wide range of choices for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They even have a fun cocktail menu, though I usually opt for the Bloody Mary! Located right within the village shops you can pop right in when you get hungry while shopping or stop for a little sweet treat. As they say on their website “It’s all about good times and comfort food” and they are spot on!

Soups On

My go-to spot for a quick, easy and oh so yummy warm bite. Specializing in home made soups, they also have a few other options like sandwiches and Mac and cheese. Each day they have about 12 soups to choose from, but each day has different options so no two days are the same. I like to call to ask what they have available. Choices can range from classic chicken noodle to home made chili. Located on 25A seconds away from the LIRR station.

The Country House

The Country House Restaurant was built in 1710 is located on the corner of Route 25A and Main Street in the Historic District of Stony Brook, just across from The Long Island Museum. With a rich historical roots and tasty food to boot you can’t miss this spot. They have a great menu as well as special menus and events for holidays. It’s said to even have its very own ghost, perfect for spooky season, who was a resident at one time. She has often been seen by owners, patrons and in photos taken while dining there. You can check out their latest menu here.

The Bench Bar and Grill

Located right across from Stony Brook University makes this spot Stony Brooks go to sports bar in the famed “Seawolves Country”. But its more than just a bar, they also have an exceptional menu with food that makes your mouth water for more. While boasting a great bar area for sports fans to enjoy game night they also have a sit down area that is incredibly family friendly. Need a night off from cooking then The Bench is a great option!
